A heist comedy set in East Germany 1990, the final hot summer before reunification, hinges on the tiny six-day exchange window before the Ostmark becomes obsolete.
Free-spirited Maren (Sandra Hüller), her partner Robert and friend Volker happen upon millions of soon-to-be-worthless East German banknotes and take what they can carry. Shot among some surviving gems of socialist modern architecture and cast exclusively with actors from the former East Germany, the nub of the story rests on how the members of a close-knit socialist community react to the sudden untold wealth within their grasp. Solidarity confronts greed in a resolution that owes much to a Robin Hood dynamic.
