Joshua Oppenheimer follows documentaries The Act of Killing and The Look of Silence with a bold move: an all-star musical about a family that has survived the end of the world.
Twenty-five years after environmental collapse left the Earth uninhabitable, Mother, Father and Son and their few companions are confined to a palatial bunker. They struggle to maintain hope and a sense of normalcy through the rituals of daily life — until the arrival of a stranger. Suddenly the frail bonds of optimism that have held this wealthy clan together begin to fray. As tensions rise, long-repressed feelings of remorse and resentment threaten to destroy the balance. But difficult truths point to a way forward, one based on acceptance, love, and a capacity for change.
